A house of near untouched beauty hidden deep in the Worcestershire countryside. Harvington's history-rich interior holds enthralling tales of devotion and Catholic persecution. There are no less than seven priest hides here (more than any other house in England), as well as an impressive collection of rare Elizabethan wall paintings and many more historical tales. The Sticky Fig Catering Co. have sympathetically converted the Malt House into a small coffee shop, serving artisan coffee, sandwiches and homemade cakes, as well as freshly baked breads and a collection of individually packed picnics, ploughman's lunches and cream teas.
Unexpected history events on which made our visit more enjoyable. A beautiful house and garden with intriguing history and many hidden depths! Knowledgeable, helpful visitor assistants and great weather helped to make it an all round positive experience.
Went on the guided tour and it was fantastic, it started at 11.30 and took over 2 hours going into most of the rooms and explaining what life was like for it's owners, living in Elizabethan England as catholics, we were shown most of the priest holes in the house. The guide was in period clothing and was very informative and passionate about the house. There is a cafe in the garden for after your tour which we were served excellent sandwiches and cakes. It really well worth a visit.
Superb house to visit. Lovely architecture and in a wonderful setting. Highly recommend doing the guided tour and if you get Sue you're in for a treat, she was absolutely amazing and really made it a wonderful experience
This was my first visit to Harvington Hall. It oozes history. A beautiful and amazing house, the hiding of the priest holes is ingenious. The guide was informative and knowledgeable, and we were given plenty of time to investigate each room. Visiting the Hall is definitely like going back into history, and a visit would be useful for students who are studying this period in history. The gardens are beautifully maintained, and there is a coffee shop in the grounds serving refreshments, including soup, sandwiches, and hot snacks, with plenty of outside seating. In the house is a gift shop with a very good range of historical books, locally made gins and beer, activity options for children, and other gifts relating to the house and the local area. St. Mary's church across from the house is beautiful and well worth a visit. It's the most remarkable historical house I have been to, and I've visited many others over the years. Can't wait to visit again and soak up this period in history again. It was so exciting.
The cafe has a smaller menu selection, however the food quality and service is excellent. The best cheese toastie I have had in a while. You do need to watch out for the ducks though. They have become perhaps too tame and will nip your shoes/clothing to get your attention for food. However it is great to see them so close up. Not been on a tour of the hall yet but it does look like being a fascinating afternoon.
What a fantastic and interesting place to visit. Entirely surrounded by water and full of rooms to explore. Don't forget to look for all the priest hides. We had the most engaging guide/volunteer Jo. Q who was informative, knowledgeable, and really engaged our 8 year old daughter. Can't praise her enough. Would recommend spending a good 2 hours exploring this house. Also has a lovely cafe and gift shop on site.
