Norman fortress ruins with dungeons, a cloistered chapel and an audio-visual show inside a tent.
Quite a poor experience. The "castle" is a small ruin that you can actually see all of it from the outside area, before buying a ticket. The "dungeon" is a tiny cave with two dead ends and nothing to see at all. The view from the top is average. Overall, I would say avoid. It's worth walking up the hill to see the castle from the outside, but not worth getting a ticket for. Not recommended at all.
Doesn't look like much from the beach but it's worth the steep but short walk up the hill to enjoy the ruins and the views. The dungeons carved into the foundation rock are particularly interesting.
We did not know that to get into the ruins that you needed to go across the field to the roadway, down the roadway a little then entrance to the castle ruins was easy. We were only in Hastings for the day and weren't told this until we went to go back down the railway, as were due to leave shortly after our trip using public transport so were unable to go back across to go through. Perhaps some signage or advise on our way up would have been beneficial as others were climbing and clambering up large rock outcrops which due to our age was out off the question for us.
Great place to see beautiful views of Hastings. Consider taking the West Hill Lift (Funicular) to get up the hill to the castle. Castle resides just West of a larger sprawling county park as well.
Great castle for history-lovers. Park in the nearby Castle Hill Road car park for a short five minute steep climb. Head to the top of the car park, take the stairs up and keep walking (sticking to the right side) til you find a small sign for the castle. We spent a good hour exploring, although others did it in less. Very reasonably priced. We got a 3-in-1 ticket to visit the castle, aquarium and smugglers adventure (valid for seven days) and loved all three. Very inaccessible for those with limited mobility due to steep access routes and uneven ground.
A timeless marvel standing tall on the cliffs, echoing with centuries of history. From the Norman Conquest to medieval battles, it's a journey through time that leaves you in awe. Unmissable for history enthusiasts and curious minds alike. We have made a video on Hasting Castle on our YouTube channel, if you are interested search on Be Inspired to Travel.
