Venerable museum dedicated to local history & natural sciences, plus global artwork & culture.
Lovely, small and cosy museum, with interesting exhibits, and architecturally a beautiful building inside and out. Also a nice little rest area and coffee station, and plenty of couches throughout. My child's comment: Really impressed with the wall mounted tiger head in the wood panelled room, the taxidermy birds and their nature scenes.
Great amount of items from every period in history on display. Loved the Grey Owl story with a mock up of his log cabin and many personal items of his to see. Some stairs but there are lifts to all levels. Great art exhibition also. Worth a visit
Visited the Section with the Black Art pieces. Depicting Playing the race card "and the problems they face in setting up the exhibition. I didnt even know that such exhisted. It was very interesting and educational .Sadly the exhibiton closes tomorrow as it ran from the beginning of July to the 5th August.
We were truly surprised at what a lovely diverse museum this is. It is light and airy and the displays are magnificent. There is something of interest for all age groups. Allow plenty of time for your visit because there is so much to enjoy
What an amazing place filled with out of the ordinary things to see and do for all the family. Friendly staff welcome you into another world and as you walk around enjoying the various seasonal exhibitions on show. The very building itself is alive with curves, beautiful stone work and the most remarkable carved wood I've seen anywhere. I've lived a few roads away from the museum for years and just never ventured inside until recently to see an art installation and performance by Orryelle and Melissa and I've been back a few times already and enjoy every bit of it.
Very informative and was a lovely start to a short break in Hastings. Very child friendly - they had an activity trail to complete and lots of interactive displays to keep children engaged.
