Hauser & Wirth Somerset is a pioneering world-class contemporary art gallery and multipurpose arts, education and community destination. Behind the gallery there is a landscaped garden, designed by Piet Oudolf, which includes a changing program of outdoor sculptures and houses the Radic Pavilion, designed by Smiljan Radic. The Roth Bar, our site-specific artwork and fully functioning bar within the Threshing Barn, serves seasonal drinks, and the Farm Shop supports farmers, growers and makers by stocking the best produce from our community.
We had never been here before, but stopped off here on the recommendation received the night before. We set our sat nav for Bruton and then just followed the signs for H&W, very easy to find and plenty of car parking available. A lovely collection of buildings greeted us and we had a brilliant breakfast in the sunny courtyard at the Roth Bar (will do a separate review for there). After breakfast we had a lovely walk around the garden which has an array of beautiful flowers and plants as well as the impressive sculptures. We then looked around the farm shop which was well stocked with local produce. We will definitely visit again when we are in the area.
Just reopened after an eye-popping refurbishment to the bar. Super busy, but staff were really friendly and made the visit even more enjoyable. The Phyllida Barlow show was amazing - literally. And the statues arranged in the beautiful garden took the show to a different level. Will be going back as often as I can.
Beautiful garden to wander around. Very peaceful. Expensive cafe and farm shop. The butcher was very polite and friendly. The cafe and museum staff were pretentious.
Excellent art gallery, great taste! Very carefully selected sophisticated farm shop and nice bar. The garden is huge and beautiful. Kids friendly and educational.
Very original art gallery in a beautiful setting and with a spectacular and well-stocked farm products store. The little terrace to have a coffee or tea, very pleasant. The house/room inside the gardens is very original, in summer they will be beautiful...
I can't think of a more special art gallery in the UK. Great exhibitions, stunning location and an incredibly well laid tranquil garden. Shame they got rid of the Roth Grill and replaced it with a fairly basic pub in the middle of the exhibition route, but hopefully the Italian which opens soon will be as good as the restaurant was.
