Haggerston Castle Holiday Park near Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland is aptly named with a historic castle sitting within the grounds. Nowadays, the castle's tower is home to a snazzy bar that's perfect for a relaxing drink or two. The nine-hole golf course is great for beginners and experts alike, with an Aerial Adventure course now open, and a mini version plus an Inflatable Arena arriving for spring 2023 (subject to final plans). The indoor pool comes complete with a spa area, and there are seven beautiful lakes to enjoy. There's entertainment throughout the day and evening, with a signature Mash and Barrel restaurant catering for all tastes. A Papa John's and Cook's are yum takeaway alternatives, with a Chopstix planned soon, too.
Didn't get off to a great start on arrival, the shower was extremely unacceptable, the issue... Mould! The people who clean these caravans need to learn how to clean properly. Haven, you need to make sure these people can carry out their duties before allowing the customer to enter their holiday home. The first caravan was in an appalling state, the second was better but there was still mould in the shower. Due to travelling for 5 hours and waiting a further hour to enter the 2nd caravan we cleaned it ourselves and couldn't be bothered with the hassle. After this mishap we had a great holiday. |Used as a base - close to some beautiful, clean, sandy beaches.|Upon arrival staff were welcoming. |Staff were friendly and helpful. |Golf - Excellent facilities and cafe reasonably priced - great food - lush coffee!|Crazy golf - good fun for the family - very well laid out - throughly enjoyed!|Couldn't book swimming - very busy.|Site was lovely and clean.|Didn't eat here but the queue for Chopstix suggests its a hit.
Arrived on Friday for the weekend, after not being able to check in until after 5pm, we then noticed very quickly that the floor had not been cleaned at all as there was bits of rice and melted chocolate all over the floor. The sofa had also not been cleaned to an adequate standard. Apart from that the caravan was fairly clean. Sadly there was hardly any activities available for children, as they were nearly all fully booked, even after trying to book them days in advance. The entertainment venue was absolutely packed, we tried to get in multiple times and ended up giving up.
The park itself is great. Nice lakes, well set out. Plenty to do for the kids. Bars and restaurants reasonable quality and price. Staff are all good also. The only let down is the touring caravan area. The pitches and toilet blocks need investment as they where the worst we have used.
We visited this site as a family of 3 adults and 7 children. Having visited many havens before we were looking forward to it. On arrival at our caravan there was a highchair and a bag of dirty bed linen outside, no issue at all as we assumed this was waiting to be collected. However it was still there 2 days into our stay when it had heavily rained and been very windy leaving them to be sodden and potentially damaged (which someone would then be hiring again). We stayed in a silver caravan with decking. Our caravan was mainly clean however the sofas and carpets were stained, there was food crumbs/wrappers under the coffee table and sofa cushions and crumbs in the kitchen. There was also a bag of sweets left on top of the cupboard. ||The spotlight entertainment was lovely and more relaxed than the live lounge, however you could only buy glass bottles or cans of fizzy drinks rather than on tap which were considerably more expensive for the volume. The live lounge was very busy which is expected for the school holidays however there was a lot of security (presumably for all the drunk adults) and the tables were dirty. ||There is lots to visit around the site and if you are using it as a base then it is a good location and the staff were very friendly. It definitely isn't the best haven site we have been to for facilities and we wouldn't be returning.
Recently, we have always gone to the lake side caravans near the lodges and we love it! We go during summer for 4 nights and it's always a great visit! There is a lot to do there! I have visited many times but recently we have been going more often in the summer as we usually went to other places in summer and came here before then it left it for a year but recently we have returned! The style is very nice and the walks to the lake are lovely! The caravans are always clean and have a nice clean smell inside. There is many geese at the lake which is lovely! There is a lot of nature on the lake which is great to watch sitting on the chairs outside the doors. The dining area is spacious and the kitchen has lots of room! The living room is huge and has great space for a family of 5! The bedrooms are what you would expect for a caravan and are neat and the bathroom the same. The area around the lake for parking the car is really nice! Last visit we had a lovely area looking at one of the lakes (can't remember the name of the street but it has badger in) and it was nice and private! The walk to the main lake is a lot long but I love that since the walk is so nice and it gets steps in!! The activities in the main lake are very fun and swans are on the lakes! It's certainly my favourite caravan park and one of my favourite holiday destinations!!
A lovely area and park! Very well looked after, nice and clean! Our caravan was beautiful. All members of the park team were very helpful and welcoming ! Only distaste about the area is where we were placed. Had to travel mostly by car and bike to get to the main area of the park as it is a great length away. Got to enjoy the scenery on the walk!
