Landmark granite moorland tor rising 1,499 ft. above Dartmoor National Park, with a visitor center.
Great place to visit in all weather but need to go with a waterproof jacket and at the very least trainers or walking shoes as it's a long and steep walk from the car park. It's always windy and the weather changes very quickly. If you decide to attempt to climb the Rocks, do it carefully and only do it if you have the right shoes as it's very slippery and coming down is very dangerous.
The walk up from the car park is super enjoyable, behind you are the most insane of views which will only get better once you reach the top. I was fortunate enough to go at sunset so I got to see violet skies, golden fields, blue seas, and the sun slip beneath the horizon. The rocks were also a fun scramble. Afterwards I wildcamped on the moors behind. Wild ponies galloping under the full moon were only part of my experience. Later in the night I got to lay down in the bracken and look up to the stars, spotting constellations as my eyes traced the milky way, and add to all that, A METEOR SHOWER!!! Would recommend Haytor to any adventure lovers.
We visited the amazing quarry to the ? north of the rocks; such a beautiful serene and restful place. The water lillies were stunning and the experience was made complete by a piper playing haunting melodies from a corner of the quarry! You. Must. Visit!
Beautiful views, gorgeous ponies and we even saw some wild sheep. Very peaceful and a great place to take a picnic.
Beautifully sunny day with view to the coast. Could just make out the tower and spire of St. Marychurch churches on the coastline frpm the top pf Hay Tor. We took to easy route frpm the car park at the top of the hill. Drove round to Hound Tor for a bacon bap and coffee, stopping off for a brief walk amongst the Bluebell fields on the right passing moorland ponies with foals, sheep and lambs and cattle roaming free... drive carefully :)
Easy to park, two adjacent car parks, one free, one to pay, toilets on pay carpark a bonus. Easy walk up and around the Tor, straight up or a more curved path up to the right less steep Popular place, weekdays probably less people, I went on a Sunday, busy but not too busy
On-site services
Wheelchair-accessible car park
Good for kids
