This majestic castle stands in the heart of its ancient ramparts and medieval park, which have evolved into beautiful landscaped gardens. Privately owned by the Lindsay family, descendants of the Earls of Oxford who built it, Hedingham Castle is a haven which has had great meaning for 900 years. Romantic, exquisite, significant, magnificent and ageless. Available for weddings, events, private hire, as well as hosting an exciting calendar of events all year round, including medieval jousts, theatre, outdoor cinema, vintage fairs, classic car shows and much more. Gardens & Castle open to the public on selected dates, please check website for details. Free onsite parking available.
We went on an event weekend and really enjoyed it. Being able to explore inside the castle was great. Lovely place with the event to keep us entertained for a full day.
This castle is in excellent shape, and the grounds are lovely. We had a great time touring it. You can apparently stay in the big bedroom here AND they do weddings. What a cool place! Parking is super easy and directed by staff. You have to check it out.
We had our Wedding at Hedingham Castle in June 2024, the Castle and its grounds are absolutely stunning and couldn't have been better for our Wedding day. All of our wedding guests were blown away by the grounds, the staff and the day as a whole - it was absolutely perfect and couldn't have gone any better. The staff from start to finish could not have been more helpful, they provided all information up front and were always quick to respond to any questions and queries we had. We had the most beautiful day which ran so smoothly from start to finish with thanks to the whole team at Hedingham. I would recommend Hedingham Castle as Wedding venue to anyone, it was an absolute dream!!
We attending the jousting event, having attended a few run previously by English heritage sites. This one was by far the best performance we've seen. The actors the castle used were fantastic, the monks, and nuns that were showing off there wares in the castle itself were knowledgeable and couldn't tell you enough, nothing was too difficult, and the passion for there hobbies showed. The castle itself is well kept, was nice to see what Rochester Castle should look like if it had floors and roofs.
Lovely little Norman castle and woodland to roam around. Do a bit of googling and research before or during your visit as there is very little information posted around the place and the castle is much more significant than the posted information would suggest. The place was empty when we visited even on a gorgeous blue sky day, which is likely due to the PS11 entrance fee
Had a good 3 hrs here. Plenty to do and see, the keep, the gardens and the lake. Not pretentious like a NT property, nice cafe and reasonable prices. Plenty of shady areas too for a warm day!
On-site services
Wheelchair-accessible car park
Wheelchair-accessible toilet
Getting tickets in advance recommended
Good for kids
