This 16-hectare nature reserve is a former limestone quarry that has been transformed into a thriving habitat for wildlife. The quarry's steep cliffs and rocky outcrops provide a unique environment for a variety of plants and animals, including rare species such as the Peregrine Falcon and the Wall Brown butterfly. The reserve's woodland areas are dominated by oak and birch trees, while the grasslands are home to a range of wildflowers, including orchids and cowslips. A network of footpaths and trails allows visitors to explore the reserve and take in its natural beauty.
A pleasant walking area with 2 to 3 short circuits. Not very long walks, though. A small woodland copse is how I would describe it. 3 stars reflects fact we were after something bigger and with more varied walks.
Nice place for couple hours walk. OK even for small children.
Enjoyable afternoon walk some quite sep paths. Lovley sandstone cuttings to walk between.
Look at these views! We did the Helsby Hill and Farmhouse Walk, 2 and a half hours, about 8km and was incredible. The air was crisp and fine, the path was clean and plenty of sunshine to keep us warm, the dog loved the sights as did I! Would definitely recommend this little walk for others :)
Lovely little walk. Good if you have prams or wheelchairs. Plenty of little rest stops, with benches to sit and enjoy this small woodland. There are some parts that have steps on the trail but you can find other ways to avoid the steps. A short walk but beautiful.
No access to any tunnels/caves anymore. Its a pleasant enough place if your local or in the area.
