Great evening at the Gravesham Light Festival. Brilliant drummers. Full of style, musicality, light and brilliant fun.
Wow, the indoor market has turned into a huge wine bar. An alcaholics heaven! It was very empty when I went. The good news is that Chrystal cafe is still there.
Gravesend town is quiet these days, but I like that. Walking around viewing the history is an interesting and enjoyable walk. The architecture is beautiful and there are some really lovely spots to relax and enjoy the present moment.
This used to be easy on the eye, a good place to look around and soak up the history and ambience but not now, unfortunately corruption gets in everywhere if the backhander is substantial enough!. Take a look at this monstrosity built in the middle of the heritage quarter blocking out light and views for the residents and therefore creating a more than overall glum view of the town. From where I stood you could see the river Thames traffic, not any more. How sad.
It's a bit run down compared to when I worked down there 27 years ago, but I always find the history fascinating and the architecture is lovely.
Gravesend is a place that deserves more attention. It has an incredibly rich history and some wonderful buildings. I hope the town flourishes again in the future as it should!
