Military museum which site on the site of the only First World War battlefield in the UK. The museum tells the story of the Bombardment of the Hartlepools and has a range of uniforms, artillery and other militaria on display. There is also a reconstruction of a WWI trench and a fitted out Anderson Shelter visitors can go into. Refreshments can be bought at Poppy Tea Rooms, sit in or take away. The museum and tea rooms are both dog friendly.
Very small museum, but packed with history and incredible displays! Entrance is free (but a donation is recommended). Plenty of history about the battery and the role it played in WW1. Only took about an hour to go around, but the staff were very friendly and informative!
Hugh Battery Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into military history. Exhibits are well-curated and informative. The museum provides insights into the area's defense history, making it a must-visit for history buffs. However, limited interactive displays may not engage younger visitors as much. Overall, a worthwhile visit for those interested in military history.
What a brilliant little museum. It is small, but pay what you think and the good exhibits make up for it's size. The only ww1 battlefield in Britain, the site of the first death by enemy fire, with pictures from 1914 of the damage done to Hartlepool makes this museum a truly special visit. My 3 year old loved it. There was a volunteer tour guide on the day I visited (16/3/24) he was brilliant, excellent facts from the time. Funny and engaging, he kept my 3 year old entertained. To have a place like this so close to home is truly special. They have plenty of events on during the year as well, can't recommend this museum enough to keep the memories of those who fought for our freedom alive.
Lovely knowledgeable staff, lovely little museum on great spot with fab views. Was thrilled to see dolphins off the coast when we visited
Wide selection of guns of different shapes and sizes. Very friendly, informative, and helpful staff.
Went here today to witness a stunning sunrise. Obviously the museum wasn't open but the cannon was there and the light house was lit up. Took some stunning photos of the sunrise over the ocean, very quiet, managed to park up easily and enjoy the most beautiful of scenes. I encourage anyone to experience this at least once. The photos don't do the view justice. It truly was spectacular!
