A 1.5-mile-long curved wall built into the sea, protecting the harbour from the open water and providing a safe haven for ships.
Beautiful place to visit. The pier itself is now closed to public as is unsafe but here's a lovely walk right along the headland on a tarmacked surface so wheelchair friendly. There is ramps/steps at various points down onto the beach when the tide is out can explore the rock pools and see some unusual creatures. There is a fish shop verrills which is tasty and can enjoy some fish and chips. The heugh battery museum is nearby which although small is an interesting visit and now has a cafe on site. Picture taken on a dark stromy night. There are some sheltered spots and due to low light is also a good spot for star gazing.
Amazing part of old Hartlepool. Lighthouse and Heugh Battery as well as coastal walking path route. Views of Teesbay and Teesmouth to die for, as well as pier and breakwater, and old town wall and beach. Recommended! :)
Best part of this shoreline, which still has some quiet loverly period properties
Lovely place, beautiful view over towards the marina
Verry good and has been up for many years as well as the old wall but has been destroyed by the workman looks even worse has we had 3 incidents with the wall falling apart.its also good for photos and photographer's to take pictures when it is rough and the breakwater keeping the headland saving and not destroying the calm side of the headland.
Lovely to walk round and there are heritage places marked around area giving the history of the place.
Wheelchair-accessible car park
