High Cup Nick is a limestone cliff in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, North Yorkshire, England. It is a popular spot for hiking and rock climbing, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. The cliff face is approximately 30 meters high and features several overhangs and ledges. On a clear day, visitors can see as far as the Lake District and the Pennines from the top.
Absolutely stunning place to walk. We headed over to High Cup Nick. Headed up the middle, bit of a slog over wet moorland, then a great scramble over boulders to the top. Amazing views from the top. Fantastic scenery all day. We added Murton Pike onto the walk too. Long walk but worth it.
High Cup Nick is just a super good example of a glaciated valley, more than likely the best example in the UK. The walk up from Dufton to this point is super nice. I would also suggest going over Backstone Edge and down the old mining road towards Dufton Pike. It makes for a great hike, with great views most of the way. High Cup Nick, however, is the best vantage point on the route and, in my opinion, the best view point in the North Pennines.
Great walk up to High Cup Nick with fantastic views of the natural glaizer. We parked at Dufton carpark. Free also you can make a donation. Toilets on site too. Great place for plenty of walks.
Thee are no words needed for this place! The walk in is about 3.5 miles and not too tough! Either way is beautiful! You will wish you had brought your tent so you could wake up to that view!
Starting from the free village car park it is an easy walk all the way to the top, There are beautiful views of the lake district across the Eden Valley and the North pennines all around. Around 3 miles into the walk you start to get glimpses of the Valley. When you get to the top of the Valley the view doesn't disappoint. Photos do not capture how amazing this place is. There are loads of ways to walk up, I did a straight up and down following the pennine way as I am recovering from a back injury
We didn't reach the top as it was too foggy. We went a bit more than half way and then went back as we could not see anything any more. It took us 1h30 for half way so I guess to the top would have been double. It's quite steep and weather is changing constantly so bring layers, water. You never know what you might need. We parked on Pennine way. Dog have to be on leash as live stock is everywhere . Maybe next time we will do in spring summer time might be better.
