Views from High Onn campsite are traditional Staffordshire farmland, with some fantastic scenery to be seen towards The Wrekin and Shropshire hills. The narrow quiet lanes around the caravan site make for excellent cycling territory and are ideal for strolls along the Shropshire Union Canal. There are lots of great attractions in the vicinity, including Ironbridge, the caves, walks and views at Hawkstone Follies, Weston Park and the RAF Cosford Aerospace Museum. The Royal Oak in the nearby village of Church Eaton, serves great food and real ales. In addition to all this, extensive private dog walks will provide the perfect treat for the four-legged members of your family.
A lovely place to stay, so quiet and peaceful. We arrived on Friday the 9th July after a nightmare journey on the M5. We were greeted by a lovely lady who was very friendly and helpful, she even recommended a pitch we might like, she pointed out that it was built on an old airfield which you can see in parts of the site, we located the pitch and parked up, our electric lead just reached the service point, but the staff came to our rescue with a longer lead. |We cannot recommend this site enough, although it has no shower block, don't be deterred by this. A warm friendly welcome awaits you.|A good place for walks, and bike riding.
We have just returned home from High Onn and we wouldn't recommend it to anyone. In fact in 6 years of using g the CAMHC sites this is the first time we've had any need to complain. The site is situated down very narrow roads used by a variety of farm machinery. Personally if we had a new caravan I would have been gutted as the hedgerows are overgrown and scratch your vehicles as you pull over. Once on site our first impressions were that it was very tranquil and peaceful. A lot of empty patches made finding a suitable one easy. On Friday night it became apparent that our tranquility was shortlived when a neighbouring family thought it was perfectly acceptable to play on what sounded like a wii fit. The noise, loud laughing and screams were still on going at 11.20pm when my husband had no other option than to go and ask them to keep the noise down. It resulted in a half hearted apology and the flick of a V. The next morning the offending family chose to tell the rest of the seasonals so we were ostracised. Another seasonal site had a mororhome and caravan both plugged into electricity occupying the same pitch and for our whole time there we never saw a warden. It was like no other CAMHC site we have been on and we wouldn't return.
Perfect hide away site. Very quiet area, can only be approached on narrow lanes. Nothing here for kids. Perfect for adults wanting a quiet get away. Great walking and cycling area. There are no showers or toilets on site, which helps keep the cost down. Wardens are very friendly and helpful too. Enjoy!
Peaceful, rural campsite with lovely walks to the Shropshire Union Canal. Lovely friendly wardens who provided lots of information on walks and where to find a good pub on the canal. One word of warning, if you walk the canal from bridge 25 (out of the site and turn right) to bridge 19 ( where the pub is) you'll pass through a wooded area which attracts lots of mozzies. They feasted on me despite wearing insect repellent so make sure that you thoroughly douse yourself. It's a lovely walk nevertheless and a great welcome and lovely meal at the pub at the end of it.
The site is as written up in the C&M club book. ||It's peaceful and definitely off the beaten track. ||DO follow the directions that are printed in the club-book or on the website, the area is a maze of narrow lanes, some with grass in the middle. By following the given directions you will be on the best of the narrow lanes with numerous passing places. ||The wardens are lovely. ||There are a couple of areas with non-awning pitches that look as though they are closer together. At this time of year there were several hard-standings for us to choose from so we had plenty of space. ||Caution with walking dogs as there were escaped sheep on the site a couple of days while we were there.
Well laid out site with simple facilities. Good small dog walking area adjacent to the site. Very welcoming and helpful wardens. Walks in the area are not that dog friendly. The local farmers have done the minimum possible to comply with the law such as using styles but placing barbed wire across any area a dog could fit in. Road walking is fine as the roads are quiet however.
