This 656-foot-high hill in the Lake District National Park offers breathtaking panoramic views of Derwentwater, the surrounding mountains, and the Borrowdale Valley.
Nice hike to highspy, start point is catbells and maiden moor and reaching highspy and circular back to Catbells car park. There is no clear marked path going down from HighSpy. Take a left turn approx after 0.6 miles when coming back from HighSpy.
Nice walk up from Hawes End, Skelgill, Yewthwaite and Maiden Moor. Spotted two bonkers cyclists at the summit. Descent was via Dale Head, Newlands Valley, back to Keswick via Portinscale.
It was on a way whilst walking a trail from Catbells; great views, easy walk, what is more - between High Spy and Csstle Crag there is an abounded Rigghead Quarries slate mine, what the views! Deffinately worth a stop and proper exploration.
Considerably less crowded than Catbells and another Wainwright/Nuttall to tick off your list. High Spy has great views and the summit cairn is impressive. This is a great walking area.
I walked up catbells and on to high spy. Perfect day helped make it a great walk with fantastic views! Lovely waterfalls on the way down too! I would recommend this walk to someone new to walking and looking for a challenge.
And now the crowds have dwindled even more and you are getting into real mountain territory. It's a nice undulating ascent from Maiden Moor and it's lofty position gives a feeling of belonging in the fells. The views back are good, however to the east are the Dodds and Helvellyn, to the south the central and southern fells, including a lovely view of Scafell Like and to the west, the remainder of a mighty horseshoe walk!!! Bag a Wainwright too!!
