Visited it today during Free Guided Tour with the Park Rangers. It was absolutely spectacular to go inside and see the view from the top floor. Park Rangers checked the names at the front entrance and then we were off to climb over 170 steps. Did I say the view was spectacular? Definitely worth a visit especially on a sunny day.
One of these days I'll visit by land until then I will continue paddling below it as I have done many times. It is always one of the most interesting sights on the Harlem River, along with the High Bridge itself, the decorative miniature lighthouse atop the old HW Wilson building in the Bronx and imagining the McCombs Dam Bridge when there was actually a dam there. There is a well known drawing of the dam and its bridge with the High Bridge in the background from 1850.
