It's a privilege to be able to access these gardens. It's a tightly controlled visit, but worth every penny. Each space is in beautiful condition and there is a very strong sense of identity that is conveyed through each of the spaces. The guide was brilliant and you ache to photograph it! Truly a wonderful morning.
Beautiful gardens - mostly cottage garden style around the house, slightly wild and rambling and like they've been there forever! It's different depending on the time of year - we've never managed to time it right to see the wild flower meadow at its best. Different guides highlight different things, some are better at projecting their voice than others, so some aren't easy to hear especially if others on the tour are chatting amongst themselves. There's an accessible loo in the Orchard Tea Room and 2 accessible parking spaces close to the building. The garden itself is wheelchair accessible but I have an all terrain powerchair and have been on tours where people with small mobility scooters have really struggled with the gravel in the walled garden. The tea room is nice - usually plenty of gluten free options. On our most recent visit I ordered a gluten free champagne cream tea and was served a gluten-full one. So I think staff training around allergens is probably not what it should be. They had also run out of gluten free scones - so I had a complimentary one scone GF cream tea rather than the usual two (GF scones are not bad but not the best - but they are warm, which is definitely the best way to serve GF s scones). So if your heart is set on a GF cream tea it might be worth emailing in advance. Nice gift shop - but obviously pricey!
To visit the gardens that King Charles has designed and built since 1981 is to better understand the often out of reach monarch. Not out of touch with humanity, deeply in touch with the land, deeply aware of how the environment works, wonderful sense of humour, brilliant eye for design. This is what the tour around the gardens demonstrates the King, the man. And the Orchard Restaurant is a brilliant way to end your visit!
Thoroughly enjoyed the tour around the gardens..learning from a very informative tour guide..telling us all about King Charles favourite plants and trees..tour lasted 1hr and 1/2. It was very impressive..theres also a tea room that does lovely scones and a gift shop.
Fabulous tour of these gardens(1.5hours)by a very experienced guide, Sue. She was informative ,very knowledgable about all aspects of the garden and it's history. The garden was amazing and a labour of great dedication by his Majesty to where it is now. My personal choice within the garden was the Stumpery and the Carpet Garden. The Stumpery for out of decay such beauty and the Carpet Garden for colour and the tranquility it offers. Would have loved to explore some of the paths off our route but can understand why we can't (security). The whole garden is just magical and well worth a vist(will be back). You finish your tour in the Orchard room and shop for both refreshments and souvenirs. All staff encountered in these were very helpful, polite and a credit to the experience that was Highgrove. Thank everyone
We loved every minute of it - once we realised that every minute of our visit was to be managed by our great guide. Amazing that most of what we saw has grown in 40 years. Well done Charlie and friends Lovely champagne cream tea - so much we had to get a doggie bag. We must come back when the flower meadow is at its peak in late May / early June
