Hilfield Reservoir Hiking Anticlockwise walking around reservoir Start 11:15 End 12:45 (1 1/2 hours) Distance 3 1/2 kilometers No car park available. Only by walking
The reservoir itself has no public access so this is a nice place to stop off on a walk and actually see the reservoir, or at least it was until somebody broke one of the benches there from its mountings and used it to climb over the barbed wire fence and into the reservoir itself. There is also a nearby mansion house, known as Hillfield Castle, but it is impossible to glimpse it from public paths. The gatehouse is visible however from the nearby road and gives you an idea of what the mansion itself looks like
A peaceful corner with an old bench. Good picnic spot as an alternative to the aerodrome.
Very good for Sunday afternoon, kids love it.
