This 17th-century fortification stands proudly on the hills of County Down, Northern Ireland, its rugged stone walls and bastion fort architecture a testament to its rich military history.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this fort and its surrounds. The town of Hillsborough itself is quaint and pretty, with some nice eateries to enjoy before or after visiting the fort, and the fort is adjacent to a wonderful park. We spent about 45mins walking the grounds of the fort itself which was interesting and worth the stop as it influenced some deeper dives into the history if the area. The adjacent park grounds are quite large so we'll be back again to explore further as the walks looked to be very good.
Fantastic place for full day outing and picnic. Some additional activities for kids most of the weekends. Just check online for tickets and go...cafeteria is nice and palace is very clean.
Hillsborough Castle is always a pleasure and the gsrdens are amazing. The new addition of the Imaginary Menagerie will be exciting for the children as they can followcthe trail.
Nice green open space just of Hillsborough forest. Free entry and a nice place to explore. Has a large tower that looks like it's being removed
Beautiful gardens, loads to look at. I enjoyed the flowers and many trees.
Great place to visit, located beside the church, Hillsborough lake and forest. It's closed due to covid restrictions, but when open is free to wander around the walls and inner grassed area.
