Once Elizabethan England's greatest House then a royal palace, Holdenby now dedicates its unique history and beauty to hosting weddings, events, schools and films. Private guided House and/or Garden Tours available (minimum numbers apply) Over the Summer season we open our gardens and tea room to visitors.
A bank holiday well spent. Gardens are pretty but don't compare with the ones we have visited at other historic houses. It struck me as a little bit boring. Would have liked to see labels on some of the plants. Also, I'd have liked to see more posted information about the plants' uses during the historic time. Thankfully the house was open too and there was a joyous falcon show. The layered cake at the tearoom/ cafe was moist and hit the spot. Would recommend if never visited but unsure if I'll return.
Made a special point of visiting Holdenby on Bank Holiday Weekend. A very interesting house ,there was a display of Royal memorabilia, not a great deal to see, no visiting upstairs. A very pleasant cafe with lovely tea and cakes. It was the Falconry display that made the day and the visit to the menagerie. Many thanks
Nice manor house, although entrance fee a bit too pricy to what you can actually see. Lovely gardens, although very small, you can play croquet on the lawn if it's free, there are three falconry shows every day. One massive let down is the cafeteria, avoid at all cost. Dirty mugs and utensils and have to wait for 45min for a cup of tee and a slice of cake.
Great afternoon out, we arrived at around 1 o'clock just in time for the falconry which lasted about 20 minutes and we got to see a vulture up close. We then played croquet and explored the gardens before making our way to animal encounters at 2 o'clock where we got to hold some snakes. The animal encounters lasted about 30 minutes and Dave was very passionate. We then had time to explore some more of the gardens and made our way back to the lawn to see the 3 o'clock falconry which was flying the bald eagle. The falconry makes this place worth visiting.
A delightful historic country house and garden with a fabulous collection of gardens and parkland to stroll around and enjoy, a lovely heritage home to view (on selected open days), an amazing array of birds and wildlife at the Icarus Falconry, and a lot more besides. Make time for the tea room which is popular and for good reason. A visit to explore and enjoy everything that Holdenby has to offer is highly recommended, you will not be disappointed.
A lovely day out exploring the gardens, seeing the bird display and the beautiful birds of prey and other animals. Only 25mins from Rugby, a hidden gem. And the tea shop, wow such amazing cakes
