Holwell Reserves is a nature reserve located in the East Midlands, England. The reserve consists of two areas, Holwell Pit and Holwell Quarry, which were previously used for limestone quarrying. After the quarrying ceased, the sites were restored and transformed into a haven for wildlife. Today, the reserve is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including wildflowers, trees, birds, and insects. Visitors can explore the reserve's trails, which offer scenic views of the surrounding countryside. The reserve also features several ponds, which attract various waterbirds and provide a habitat for aquatic plants. Holwell Reserves is a popular spot for nature lovers, walkers, and photographers, offering a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
A lovely reserve with a wide range of habitats including old Quarry, woodland and grassland. Can get a bit busy on weekends at the Quarry end of the reserve at least but is lovely and quiet any other time. The wildlife Trust manage it well and leaflets are provided at the entrances. Paths are decent but can get muddy and is definitely not recommended for wheelchair users because of this. Finally, dogs aren't allowed into the reserve which reduces the disturbance to wildlife in my view.
A nice and quiet place to enjoy the nature.
Great hidden spot. Well maintained.
Lovely little place, not too busy, peaceful walk
It's nice and quite not to many people know where it is, with all the wildlife and different paths to take can keep the family entertained for hours
Beautiful scenery, lots to see nature wise their is even Fossils to find and see. You can even gaze into the mines and if your lucky you may see the bats nesting. Parking is available along the sides of the grassy areas. No toilets or cafe unless you travel a little ways down to the village itself.
Good for kids
