A vast expanse of shifting sand dunes, Holywell Dunes stretch along the coast of North Wales, their undulating ridges and troughs sculpted by the wind. The dunes are dotted with scrubby grasses, wildflowers, and stunted trees, which cling to the sandy soil. As the tides shift, the dunes themselves move, slowly creeping inland as the sea claims more and more of the shoreline. The air is filled with the cries of seagulls and the rustle of sand as it slips beneath foot or wheel. In the distance, the Irish Sea stretches out to the horizon, its waves crashing against the shore in a soothing rhythm.
Can't fault this lovely beach views were great, recommend early visit during to busy car park and clearer sea ( less sand kicked up by the tide) one downside it's a long walk to the toilet
Pretty impressive dunes, much bigger and more dramatic than expected. Saw some kids having a whale of a time in the winter mizzle boarding down one of the larger ones. Brilliant views and an ace beach with rolling breakers. (We also saw some seals!) - make sure to use the National trust car park. Much cheaper than the private one, and the money will help conserve... something... rather than bolstering the profits of a frankly awful company.
Beautiful and fun: walking up and down mini sand dunes as the sand runs off beneath your feet, making you sink with every step
Easy parking and walk to dunes and beach. Nice rock pools and river adding a bit of interest. Not much shade on a sunny day but some rocks gave some, so bring a wind break or tent or something similar.
Fantastic view from atop of the dunes. Visited early may so not as warm as it looks in photo but can imagine it being really nice in summer.
A great place to visit with a wonderful and large beach. The dunes are huge and are well worth the visit. While we were there we saw a film crew filming which was interesting. There were alot of people on the beach but plenty of room. Great views to boot.
Good for kids
