Had a lovely visit here with my family, from our initial friendly and helpful interaction with Anne at the ticket office, to the very knowledgeable staff within the house, we couldn't fault it. After visiting the lovely rooms in this stately home, we enjoyed a fantastic walk in the gardens. Our kids also loved working through the quiz when visiting the different rooms, it was an excellent addition to the house tour.
A must for any Outlander fan visiting the area. The rooms open to the public are beautifully preserved, and there are many volunteer guides around who have extensive knowledge of the house's history. The grounds are beautiful, with wooded nature trail walks (I'd recommend having a good camera or binoculars). I dropped one star as I was hoping to come away with at least a guide book or postcard as a memento, but the shop was closed.
Went here for a celebration dinner and it was phenomenal and definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Scotland. The Palace feels like it was straight out of a fairytale movie and decor and architecture were incredible. The curator gave us a bunch of background on the Hopetoun family and how they built the house in the 1600s. Well worth he trip to check it out.
It is the most comprehensive house I have ever been able to visit. By this, I mean I was able to see all the grand rooms, plus bedrooms, a servant's bedroom in the attic, walk around parts of the roof, and finally explore the butler's room in the basement. Amazing
Really enjoyed our visit, I especially loved all the information you got from the various guide leaflets dotted throughout the rooms and in particular the staff who where really friendly and brought the history and stories of Hopetoun House alive. Would highly recommend.
Lovely manor house and garden. Great accessibility: with blue badge allowed to park next to front entrance of the house. Lift up to ground floor (avoiding the stairs). Staff and volunteers very helpful and enthusiastic. Great food at cafe. Also was location for several scenes from Outlander series. So must see for any Outlander fans!
