Horseshoe-shaped waterfall artfully created by a low dam, with lush surrounds & picnic spots.
Great family walk, easy to excess. Good length canal path to have an ice cream in town. Minutes walk to chained Bridge and old stream railway train station.
Beautiful place, with amazing views. Amazing engineering to create the falls - Mr Thomas Telford was a clever man with this plan for water diversion to fill the canal. Good carpark with nice toilets. Lovely walk along the river bank to the little church. Lots of interesting and very old gravestones in the graveyard surrounding the church. Go along it is worth the visit, although the weather had other ideas for us as we were absolutely soaked from walking from the the river side to the top of the hill!! Be prepared!!
Can be accessed by either walking along the canal from Llangollen or there is a car park on the road out towards Horseshoe Pass. The stroll along the canal is easy, if you park at the top it's a steep climb down a hill with cows in it!
A nice place to sit and while away the hours listening to the sounds of the weir. Quite a steep path down from the car park but it is pleasant enough when you are there.
Just beautiful! We have been to Llangollen many times, as we live fairly close by. A trip to Llangollen is not complete without a visit to the Horseshoe Falls. Can get busy on weekend days; but if you get lucky with the weather, take a picnic and sit by the waters edge.
This is an interesting place to visit as it forms the start of the canal system that runs over the highest aqueduct in the UK. The engineering that is displayed here is remarkable. Walking from the car park (it is a pay & display car park - PS2 for 1hr) you follow a clear path on to an open grass field that slopes down to the river Dee. The horse fall is viewable from the top of the field but do walk down to the river. The river Dee is a beautiful river in itself, but the scale of the engineering really hits home when you get close. Follow the path to the left and you will have the river Dee on your right & the start of the canal on your left - the iron foot bridge walks over the actual divide. Telford's engineering is spectacular, but the river Dee is also beautiful. Walk a short distance along the path &, if you are watchful, you will see the three-way overlapping bridges, which is well worth the short walk.
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
