Here, the Island's mythological sea god, Manannan, welcomes you to his fascinating Kingdom. Let him guide you through the Island's rich Celtic, Viking and maritime past.
I was blown away by the way this museum is presented. From Vikings to Celts to modern day life, the evolution of the Isle of Man is presented here. Through info, exhibits and interactive film and scenes it is a must to visit,
A really neat museum that explains the history of the Island very well. The museum is nicely situated next to beautiful harbor and has nice views of the castle. The museum made good use of fake rooms, lighting and automatic recordings that can play once you enter the room. It starts from the celtic era, to modern. There are quite a few interactive experiences. Overall, a great place to see for a couple of hours, and relatively easy to get to from Douglas.
I've visited this museum a number of times when on holiday, it's a great way to pass a couple of hours. The first part of the museum is 'guided' and when this first opened you waited in pre show rooms to ensure you saw everything the show had to offer, now the doors are just open and you go through at leisure, meaning you may not see it all, and sadly some of the animatronics no longer function. There is still plenty to see and do about the history of the isle of man from the vikings to the modern day shipping. There is a section dedicated to the steam packet (originally you could "sail" the lady of mann on a simulator, this too is now a static display).
Excellent place to learn about the history of the Island. Wonderful displays and really interesting videos going into greater detail. A fantastic experience, one of the best of it's type I have visited.
The House of Manannan is an awesome Isle of Man museum. We have been few times over the years when visiting. Great overview of the islands history from the vikings to today. the layout, artifacts, displays, and videos are all great and walk you through the timeline. We love it!
