Decided to book a guided tour, enjoyed being served morning coffee with shortbread on entry by volunteer. Advised no inside photos allowed apart from the entrance hall. The guided tour took just over an hour, very interesting finished by a walk around the grounds enjoying the view over the river.
Lovely place to visit with a guided tour well recommended. Best tour guide we have ever had the pleasure of going around a property with, very knowledgeable about the house and family history. Cup of tea or coffee and shortbread biscuit before the tour started in the entrance hall was a nice touch. Such a memorable day.
The 10am tour was great and not busy! A lovely coffee and shortbread included then a very interesting tour round the house. Wish I'd taken a picnic to enjoy in the gardens with the wonderful views but I'll know for next time.
Amazing!!! Where to start... the staff... phoned on the day of visiting as didn't realise I needed to book for the house tour in advance and they accommodated the 3 of us straight away. When we arrived at the home the house appears more of a castle from the outside, when you enter you are greeted by super friendly staff who are a wealth of knowledge plus tea/coffee and local made shortbread for free whilst you sit and wait for others to arrive and the tour to start... the tour takes you room by room around the home and the wealth of information available through the staff member guiding was amazing and so fascinating.. leaving the house walking around the grounds is beautiful! There are picnic benches scattered around and perfect for a picnic. You can walk up to the Tower which has stunning views. You walk through woodland areas which are a steep incline but if you can manage it slowly then definitely get up there.
Superb viewpoint alongside a wonderful house to look round (if you can get hold of the very rare tickets!) Climb up the hill to the side of the house for views across the Forth to Rosyth and beyond. The path is well made but there are a few steps which could be tricky without the right footwear. Well worth it though.
