Hutton-in-the-Forest is a small village and civil parish in Cumbria, England, situated approximately 5 miles north of Penrith and 2 miles south of the M6 motorway. The village is nestled in a picturesque valley surrounded by rolling hills and woodlands, offering scenic walks and cycling routes. The village is home to Hutton-in-the-Forest Hall, a 14th-century fortified tower house that has been beautifully restored and now serves as a venue for weddings and events. The hall's gardens feature a tranquil lake, walking trails, and a variety of plant species. Visitors can explore the village's charming lanes, visit the ancient church of St. Mary's, and enjoy refreshments at the local pub, which serves traditional British cuisine.
We visited the cafe and gardens. The cafe was a lovely sized room with tables outside too. The food was really good and the staff were very accommodating. It was dog friendly too. Gardens were beautiful- some really good combinations and lots of delicious scents from the roses and other flowers. Definitely worth a visit!
Such an interesting visit with guide Fran, some tasty soup and then the wonderful walled gardens and park. Definitely worth a visit. Take the M6 rather than the Windermere road to avoid traffic in South Lakes.
Beautiful historic house with terraces, walled garden, parkland, woodland walks and tearoom. Guided tours of the house available. Dogs allowed on leads (but not in house). 2024 season begins March 28th, open Wednesdays, Thursdays, Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays through until end of October with many events including Classic Cars, Potfest etc Stunning example of a privately owned ancestral home, lived in year round by the family. (Was lucky enough to visit out of season - and it snowed!)
Weather helped but lovely grounds and gardens.....loved the cars
Well impressed with this place. The gardens are kept immaculate. Lovely woodland walk, never seen as much wild garlic. The walled garden was beautiful & all the gardeners were working hard. The trees are amazing, they get trimmed once a year. We went on the tour of the house & it was brilliant. The tour guide was very informative. The house is beautiful inside & very well looked after. We went with Historic Houses & it is well worth doing.
