Shell of a 4-story 14th-century castle gatehouse with Richard II's emblem on the gate.
The castle was not open (tours on Saturday) but we were able to get an idea of what has been done by a quick look at the ground floor. The surrounding gardens have been nicely done. Next time we are in the area we will definitely book a tour.
Nice little gatehouse castle. New / heritage fund money spent on it make it a venue. We weren't allowed to explore beyond the cafe. Looks nice from the outside. Cafe nice and good value. Shame we couldn't see upstairs.
A place that I have passed many times, pleasant surprise and lovely tea room and staff, the cheese and fruit scones are to die for get there before 1430, as the tea room closes then.
We just visited the cafe today as we weren't booked on a tour, but it was lovely. Cake and a coffee for PS4 - can't get vexed at that, and it was really nice! The staff were friendly and so helpful too. Hylton Castle is a fabulous place to visit and a wander round the grounds in the sunshine is a must-do! Looking forward to booking on a tour in the near future.
What a great experience well worth a visit to the refurbished Hylton Castle looks great. full of atmosphere. Attended a conference modern clear presentation large enough for everyone. Facilities cafe and the grounds were excellent. Hopefully I can go back soon. Tours are booked there are currently no schedules for these.
The castle is located in a beautiful park, with plenty of walking trails and picnic areas. There is also a visitor center and gift shop on site, which offer a variety of souvenirs and information about the castle and the surrounding area. Overall, Hylton Castle is a fascinating historical landmark that is definitely worth a visit. The castle itself is impressive, and the surrounding park is a great place to explore. Whether you're a history buff or just looking for a fun day out, Hylton Castle is definitely worth checking out.
