These gardens are a tranquil oasis in the heart of Ilford, featuring beautifully manicured lawns, vibrant flowerbeds, and majestic trees. A stunning war memorial stands proudly at the center, honoring the lives lost in World War I. Meandering paths invite visitors to take a leisurely stroll, while benches and seating areas provide a peaceful spot to relax and reflect. The gardens also host various community events and activities throughout the year, making them a beloved hub of local life.
This small oasis is situated close to where the old King George Hospital once stood and is a lasting reminder to those lost in two world wars. Originally commissioned to honour those who lost their lives in the first world, the memorial also remembers those 500 plus servicemen and women and 500 civilians from the Redbridge area that lost their lives in the Second World War.
A nice memorial that contains names of those that passed away during WWII. Doubles up as a nice park for people to walk around and sit and relax. Also, for those playing a spot of football. Some good information about those that passed away, which includes names and a flower garden area. Could do with a bit of maintenance at times, especially with the tree and bird info board.
About the park The Memorial was built to recognise and remember the 1,159 fallen during the First World War from Ilford. It was unveiled on the 11 November 1922 by the daughter of Queen Victoria, Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll. Ilford War Memorial Gardens Action Group (IWMAG) has worked with local residents, businesses, visitors and Vision Redbridge Culture and Leisure to maintain the gardens and ensure our heroes are not forgotten. Conservation work on the "Men Of Ilford" War Memorial was completed in May 2015 with the help of The War Memorials Trust who provided partial funding of just under PS5,000. Memorial Gardens is a Green Flag award winning space.
Ive seen a lot of ghosts, spirits and jinn activity here during sunrise, sunset and at night, like howling, crying and even some cases a women's shadow, ive also witnessed laughing and dogs barking. Very spectacular place to visit and it is also very haunted especially if you have to walk the path next to the gates and the children's ward(i also saw some figure there), both scary and spectacular. No doubt it MUST be haunted because of the WW2 veterans.
Like the park for afternoon walk.
Nice place to sit. If it wasn't for others rubbish left around the seat. The place has bins. Anyway after my lunch I filled my bag up with all the bottles and boxes left around my bench and put them in the bin. I wish people would appreciate and take care of their local area.
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
