Ingleborough Estate Nature Trail is the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales finest limestone scenery, leading to Ingleborough Cave (1 1/4 miles), Trow Gill Gorge (1 3/4 miles), Gaping Gill (2 1/2 miles) and finally the summit of Ingleborough Mountain (4 miles). The respected plantsman, plant collector, artist and writer Reginald Farrer developed an early passion for the outdoors here as a young boy, and some of the exotic plants he brought back from exotic locations such as Burma and Ceylon live on in the trail. The great author Alfred Wainwright described this route up Ingleborough as "the finest of all, a classic". A small charge of PS2.50 per Adult & PS1.00 per Child is made for the upkeep of the trail.
What a lovely experience, long nature trail past a lake and along the river to the caves. Quite a steep climb but worth it for the views along the way and we went in the show cave too . Brilliant but little legs will tire quickly as it's a long walk that goes up a long way too.
Superb nature trail with awesome cave at one end and a super cafe at the other. Not cheap if you want to go in the cave, good value either way though! Park in the nearby Country park car park, DO NOT set your sat nav to take you to the cave or the trail itself. The sat nav postcode is on the trail website.
A great little walk. Lovely views, wild life and a cafe. Option to explore Ingleborough and beyond from this nature trail.
Beautiful place with a gorgeous long walk to the cave. There's a waterfall at the start and a river towards the end. The staff near the cave were helpful and kind, and helped to explain the self guided walk in the cave and served refreshments. The money tree is also a wonderful point of interest along with the grotto along the way. Prams, wheelchairs and dogs are also welcome. And there is also a cafe with toilets at the beginning of the trail. All in all highly recommended. Set in the stunning hills of the dales!
What an amazing experience! The staff at the cafe and the cave entrance are so friendly. We had gorgeous food (pulled pork burgers, skin on fries) excellent portion size and reasonably priced for the high standard of food and garnish. The cave itself was awesome!
Lovely walk. You follow the river gently, climbing all the way. The trees, fauna, and flora are beautiful. The banks of Rhododendrons were in bloom and lovely. There is a small cafe (no inside seating) offering hot and cold drinks at the cave entrance. We did not do the cave visit. Would recommend it for all abilities as the path is well defined and gravelled easily for pushing a buggy / wheelchair.
