Iniscarn Forest is a sprawling woodland area located in Northern Ireland, covering over 1,200 hectares of land. The forest is dominated by coniferous trees, including Sitka spruce and Lodgepole pine, which provide a habitat for a variety of wildlife such as red squirrels, deer, and birds. The forest floor is carpeted with a vibrant display of bluebells, wild garlic, and other wildflowers in the spring. Several walking trails, including the 2.5-kilometer Iniscarn Forest Trail, wind through the forest, offering scenic views of the surrounding countryside. The forest is also dotted with ancient monuments, including the remains of a 12th-century castle and a number of historic cairns.
It's been a couple of years since my last visit. Impressed with the new car park and play area. Wayward points to the NE summit could be better.
This is a fantastic walk especially now in the autumn season with the leaves changing colour and falling onto the forest floor. multiple types of mushrooms to identify, sunlight pushing through intensifying the cobwebs and raindrops on the trees. from the car park it starts of pretty steep, then there's a 'chatty bench', inviting walkers to stop for a moment before pushing on up the hill. The terrain is mixed so walking boots are recommended. Once at the top it is very windy and offers stunning views across the countryside. We stopped here for lunch before retracing our steps then turning off at a left fork to enjoy more of the forest floor and returning in a circular route to the car park. Enjoy ....
Gravel path most of the way up, can be steep in places. Fabulous views from the top (on NE summit) of Slieve Gullion.
Fab place for a walk/hike, safe enclosed forest, can get mucky and technical towards the top.
Not easy. But majestically scenic!
Amazing view from the top. Hard climb for some parts but nothing dangerous.
