Casterley Castle is an Iron Age hill fort located in Wiltshire, England. The fort is situated on a hilltop, surrounded by a single rampart and ditch, with an entrance on the eastern side. The site is approximately 200 meters (656 feet) in diameter and covers an area of around 3.5 hectares (8.6 acres). Although the fort has been damaged by ploughing and excavation, its earthworks remain impressive, with the rampart standing up to 2 meters (6.6 feet) high in some areas. The site has been the subject of several archaeological excavations, which have uncovered evidence of occupation from the Iron Age to the Roman period.
This was a nice little find. My colleagues who are locals did not know about this hidden gem. A steady away gradient through the woods with hundreds of trees with QR codes. Then, through the thick woods, the circular hill fort. Close your eyes and boom. It's the Stone Age. I loved this. The weather was perfect for a nice walk with local history.
