Island Hill is a scenic hill in the Lake District National Park, Cumbria, England. It offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains and lakes, including Windermere and Coniston Water. The hill is easily accessible via a gentle, well-marked path, making it a popular spot for walkers and nature lovers. On a clear day, the views from the summit stretch as far as the Yorkshire Dales and the Pennines. The hill is also home to a variety of wildlife, including red squirrels and peregrine falcons.
Haven't been here for a while and we hit it on a day when luckily enough the tide was out. We were able to reach the island but beware, if the tide has just gone out the causeway can be quite slippery. It gets better as it dries of course. Great scenery but sad to see empty beer cans and plastic bottles way out here as there are plenty of litter bins back at the well kept car park. There are also plenty of seats and picnic tables. Definitely a nice walk but only if the tide is out.
Beautiful location at North West short of Strangford Lough. Ideal for picnic, or short walk across causeway or around island. Suitable for dogs. Beware of high tide making causeway uncrossable. Toilets open during day. Ruins of small house on island. Great views
I had visited Island Hill as a kid 40years ago, so it was a pleasant suprise to revisit after all these years. It basically a small island in Strangford lough, can be walked to in low tide, there is a concrete causeway. Not super exciting, great for dog walkers, bird watchers, and anyone looking a gentle walk. Good car park and toilet block.
Nice spot at low which means you can get to the island. There is a loop walk and although not wheelchair friendly it's not at all enervating. Two car parks and public toilets add to the experience.
Have experienced both the high tide and low tide, as soon as its low tide pathaay to the island seems clear and walkable, be carefull of the pathway might be slippery some time. Nice place for your dogs as well.
Nice place to go for a short walk around the island but beware of the tide times as the causeway will cover over and will only be crossable with getting wet legs Lovely views down the Lough, Ards and Comber as well as both sides of the shoreline. Decent place for a picnic. Also good to see the settings sun
