What an amazing day we had here. We got the family standard ticket which showed us to just jump on and off the train. Thoroughly enjoyed it here. Lots to do including, train rides, a museum, falcons and food & drink establishments. Didn't expect to stay as long but got there at 11:15 and left at 15:45. Even my two 15 year old girls enjoyed it.
Well what can I say, if you come to the island this has to be a place you must visit,it take you back in time to place where manners mattered and enjoy the simple pleasures. The guys and gals that work here look smart in there uniforms and are lovely to talk too, the whole place is very well maintained and clean in every area. You can get up close and personal with the steam train and the driver and staff are more than happy to take questions Also there is a restaurant and also a cafe and a museum, also there a falconry centre there which cost you 3 quid each to get in but there's a couple of shows in the day which is free to watch your ticket lasts you all day so you can hop on and off all day on the 10 mile track and indulge in steam all day Highly recommended
First experience on the island train & a good one at that. Trains run frequently & there was plenty to snoop around in the museum, you can even connect to the main line if you want. There was a bird flying display twice at the main station (which I believe is being relocated in the future) which was well worth a watch. There is a cafe, restaurant, ice cream & gift shop. All in all a worthwhile visit
Took the family here primarily to ride the steam train (which you can do an unlimited number of times on the ticket) but discovered a host of other things to look at and explore. The history of the railway is explained in detail with a range of old trains and carriages to look at (and go into) and the whole station has been kept in great condition as it would have been in the late Victorian period. There is also a workshop where restoration projects are ongoing and can be viewed. A small playground is also available with a very decent cafe. In addition a falconary centre is attached to the site that offers visits (at cost) but displays are included in the railway price. The highlight of the visit is, of course, riding the restored trains and seeing steam trains in action up close which is fascinating for children and adults alike. The journey itself is hop on and off and takes you from your starting station to either end of the line via Havenstreet through some lovely countryside. All in all it was a lovely day and somewhere worth the visit at a reasonable price. PS46 for a family ticket.
Brilliant venue. Worth what you pay for. Proper steam locomotives with proper coal and the museum workshop is a must see! Amazing how much love, detail and work is put in the restoration of old engines and carriages. Really lovely!! Their gift shop will not disappoint for train or model train enthusiasts.
Fabulous ticket staff - friendly, proactively supportive and helpful. It's a great little steam railway. Our resident train expert was gutted that 'the train was from Leeds' and marked it down for this reason. No, me neither. Good cafe stocking local ice cream which was great quality. Stations and hardware well maintained.
