Jill Windmill is a 19th century corn windmill located at Clayton, West Sussex in the United Kingdom. She is a traditional working corn windmill in the South Downs National Park. She has fully restored and is now maintained by volunteers from the Jack And Jill Windmills Society, a Registered Charity. Entry inside the windmill is by donation. Refreshments and Souvenirs are normally available on Open Days, which are held on most Sundays May To September between 2 pm and 5 pm. These days are dependent on the availability of volunteers. Brilliant. Fantastically knowledgeable volunteers providing a wealth of answers to my questions. Great spot and stunning setting. Think I need to visit more of these, on my home patch - we've loads in the Chilterns.
One of these windmills is beautifully restored - so much so it's functional! We were invited to enter the windmill and see its workings up close - truly a marvel of 19th century engineering and well worth a visit. We were welcomed by two extremely friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. A lovely experience. Tea and cakes are also sold here! Wonderful views and lovely walks all around this area. Open every Sunday through summer of 2024.
Lovely visit! Beautiful windmill in a beautiful location. Very knowledgeable volunteers.
This is a lovely spot to admire Jill and to take in the views across the downs. We drove up Mill Lane on this occasion but it looks as if there are several ways that you can walk up to the Windmills. There is often a coffee truck up here but it wasn't there on this visit, the coffee and cakes are really good so make sure you try them if it's there when you visit.
Perfect for a walk or cycle along the downs. Make sure to have some warmth from the little coffee shop.
Scenic point with convenient car park with plenty of space, maybe around 50 spaces. Great access to the South Downs Way, a popular route for cyclists and pedestrians. Came here around midday on a Saturday and was busy but with few spots available, doesn't look like people tend to stay long. Didn't enter the windmill, so can't comment, but looks free to enter. Mill lane was quite narrow with a few passing places.
