A picturesque beach with a gentle slope, Jacob's Ladder beach is a tranquil haven surrounded by lush green cliffs and wooded hills. The beach is made up of a mix of sand and pebbles, with calm and clear turquoise waters that are perfect for swimming and paddling. The shoreline is dotted with interesting rock formations and tidal pools, making it a great spot for exploration and discovery.
Gorgeous There is a small honesty hut with beach toys that you can borrow and then return. (toy "library")
Beautiful really enjoyed Sidmouth parking easy clean and dog friendly
Believe it or not, this wooden staircase connecting the beach path to the clifftop Connaught Gardens is a Grade II listed building! It was constructed in the 19th century and replaced a stairway cut into the cliff that had eroded away. I reached it by way of a scenic beachside path that begins at the western end of the prom. It's an open staircase, easy enough to climb though daunting to anyone who doesn't like heights as you can see right down to the ground through the gaps in the stairs as you ascend (not the case when you're coming down, it just feels like walking down three ordinary flights of steps). The view of the coastline when you reach the top is spectacular. There's a takeaway built into the cliff near the foot of Jacob's Ladder where you can get homemade sandwiches, pasties, ice-cream and drinks. Perfect for a picnic on the beach! They also do ice-cream for dogs. There's an alternative, more accessible route up to the gardens if you can't manage the staircase.
Beautiful pebble beach, dog friendly with a kiosk for snacks and drinks. There is a public restroom. The beach is clean and not overrun. Option to hire a paddle board or boat. Great for swimming.
It's a truly amazing feeling to walk along this beach away from the town at low tide
