Discover the incredible world of Anglo-Saxon Northumbria at a historic and environmental oasis in the heart of South Tyneside. Set across 11 acres, Jarrow Hall features a museum dedicated to exploring the life and legacy of Bede, alongside an extensive Anglo-Saxon farm and reconstructed Anglo-Saxon dwellings. Suitable for visitors of all ages and companion animal-friendly too, we are also available for private hires, events and weddings, alongside school and academic school visits.
What a wonderful place. Visited when the dragons were on display, great little museum with stories of Anglo Saxon life, a farm and a replica village. My son loved it. The cafe was excellent as well, great service and nice food. Only thing I would say is it took a while to enter as only one person was on the till.
Bit lack luster, not much there, it seems a bit run down and the animals didn't look happy. It was nice to see them but clearly they aren't doing as well as there wasn't many people visiting.
Very interesting attraction with something for everyone. I was (unnecessarily) worried the museum part would be boring for my 3 year old but she really enjoyed the interactive archeology exhibits. The farm had a great selection of animals although it was laid out a little unintuitively (but maybe that's because it's an accurate medieval farm?). Animals were very friendly! The cafe and play park were also excellent. The park also had something for all ages.
Superb for school groups to go and visit and find out more about the Anglo - Saxons Plenty of resources, artefacts, displays and an amazing farm to show what life was like. They also run workshops for pupils in various aspects, definitely a great day out Suitable for all abilities and families Large hard standing car park which is free, plenty of facilities including a cafe, toilets and a shop.
A very pleasant walk on Father's Day. Concessions for us oldies and tickets that last all season. The walk around the animals and Iron Age settlement are interesting, as is the inside museum about Bede and the monastery. There are inside and outside activities for young children. There was a bit of a wait for cooked food in the cafe but plenty of space outside to eat it. If you want to be a bit more refined and eat inside, then it's better to book with the cafe. Set aside a morning or afternoon. You can easily spend several hours wandering.
A cute little museum with lots of animals. Gives a good insight into the history of Bede and the Monastery nearby. Highly recommended for both kids and adults alike. You do need to buy a season pass (valid from Feb-Dec) which gives unlimited entry. Also some cute working cats onsite.
