Radio Observatory UNESCO World Heritage Site Home of the mighty Lovell Telescope Proud to be part of The University of Manchester An amazing place to visit
Enjoyed a morning with my 16 and 9 year old children. The various displays and interactive things in the visitor centre are fantastic. The curved screen show is informative and visually stunning. The 30 minute children's interactive performance with two science communicators was fun but two suggestions for improvement. The person picking the five children for the questions only picked kids from the middle, so we and others were left out. The science communication was fair, but there was quite a lot of technical jargon used which I found myself having to explain to my 9 year old, when she asked, and two of the amazing demonstrations weren't clearly linked to the questions. "This is fun daddy but why are they doing it?". On the previous day when we called to ask a question about carers and disabilities the person who answered was unable to answer simple questions about it, and at one point stated that diabetes wasn't a disability. She hung up. The ticket people in the kiosk ok the day we're superb though. All in all a fantastic experience though. Would recommend and visit again.
Last visit was seven years ago... And how it's changed! What a brilliant day out and well worth the money. New visitor centre, 2 great cafes and lots of open space. There were lovely picnic areas dotted around. I would highly recommend this family attraction!
Visited today with my 8 & 10 year olds for the first time since I was a kid and we had a great time. The exhibits were interesting and engaging and lots were interactive (and actually working which is always a plus!) We attended a kids' science show which we all enjoyed and watched a couple of "dome shows" which were fantastic, plus the staff were knowledgeable and approachable. We had a lovely walk around the grounds and the Lovell telescope itself is really impressive. Great value for a 12 month pass, looking forward to coming back soon
Myself and two younger children had a great day out here. It's come a long way since I went as a child. There are lots of interactive parts to engage the children. The 'We are stars' show was really good! I was pleased to see the whispering dishes are still there (my highlight as a child). They also have worksheets that can be printed from home for the children to fill out on the way round. This was a great addition and much appreciated! The children enjoyed looking out for the different things on the worksheets. We purchased lunch, which was fairly priced, and the food was fresh. I've given one star less as I wasn't aware purchasing our tickets on the day doesn't allow us the annual pass! Had the lady told me when I was paying, I'd have gone online and booked my tickets there and then. I chose to pay on the day as I wanted to pay with cash (which is not allowed). It is very sad to see yet another business refusing cash and bribing you to pay digitally. I am really disappointed we missed out on the annual passes all because we didn't pay online!! So beware if you want the annual passes, pay online to receive them!! All in all, it was a great day, but it is a shame we won't be returning in the coming year due to not receiving our annual passes.
Aug 24. Some things were really amazing, such as the Introduction to Jodrell Bank and the Dome show 'Great Solar System Adventure'. There was, however, for me not enough physics and not enough on the actual telescope. The main issue was the timetabling where it wasn't really possible to go from one activity to another without being late. I wouldn't have thought this was difficult to fix. Well worth the visit.
We had an amazing visit! We spent over 4 hours going around all the different exhibits that were really interesting and interactive. We also went to see two shows in the new dome and a telescope talk at the end of the day which made the whole experience more interesting and immersive. Would recommend a visit
