This former textile mill, now a nature reserve, features a beautiful lake, woodland walks, and a variety of wildlife, including birds, fish, and insects, surrounded by industrial heritage architecture.
So Captivated By Jones's Mill That I have joined The Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, Michael Peacock, London, Nunhead SE15. This review is all thanks to an un-planned visit I made on 9th August 2019 to this enchanting nature reserve, on a visit from London to visit my one remaining lovely Aunty Betty in Pewsey. Paradise Jones's Mill - the word Paradise just could not be more apt - never in my 61 years have I experienced a place of such beauty tranquillity, my camera seemed to take on a life of it's own, everywhere I turned seemed to make a beautiful image. To be so near to the source of the River Avon, here a mere trickle of a stream, to be able to literally stand on a fallen tree straddling the stream felt magical. Having the picturesque Kennet & Avon Canal running along a boundary of the nature reserve was a lovely added bonus. The what I can only describe as 'the hobbit' tree so connected with me that I get completely back to the clothes I was born with - this nature reserve is a magical place, that it is quite small for me a less is so so much more. I now feel so motivated to visit again during the different seasons, and hope that I will still feel inspired with my camera. Photographers Dream! It was the combination of a very strong breeze, vivid blue skies interspersed with dark grey fast moving clouds, the shimmer the breeze created on the River Avon - stream and the Kennet & Avon Canal was magical and especially on the canal the effect resembled rippled glass supplied for bathrooms. After recovering from a very dark period in my 61 years which I endured from April 2018 until May 31st 2019 getting 'connected with nature', including extensive barefoot walking has been a very important part of my well being and mental health recovery. On the 8th August my lovely Cousin Joy went off to the local recreation centre for her daily 'sanity' saving swim. I declined the invitation and decided to go for a walk in a random direction - leaving Astley Close I chanced upon a leafy lane and quite soon was in my head-space back in Berkhamsted early 1970's a lane just off Shootersway, Sunday walks often shared with my Dad long gone bless him - the similarity and joyful memory was something special to behold. Walking down the lane I suddenly felt motivated to get my Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ35 shooting, from taking so few pictures until so recently, suddenly I felt inspired, in all my 61 years, without hesitation I can declare that the images created on 8th August are some of the most inspired and the most exceptional photos I have ever taken with respect to nature. The what I can only describe as 'the hobbit' tree so connected with me that I get completely back to the clothes I was born with - this nature reserve is a magical place, that it is just 81 acres ( 32.91 hectars ) for me is 'less is more'. I now feel so motivated to visit again during the different seasons, and hope that I will still feel inspired with my camera.
Lovely little nature reserve with open fields and Chalk streams leading up to the kennet and Avon. Boardwalks cover the marsh areas, which is lovely.
Beautiful part of the country side the cows came to look at my dog as she is black and white maybe they thought she was a baby cow! Loved it will go back often
A superb nature reserve. Rare fenland for this part of the country, with a tract of ancient Carr woodland. Restored acid heath grassland. A great place for wildlife, good views of surrounding countryside, boardwalked wetland to explore and bordered by the Kennet and Avon canal.
A small nature reserve on the Avon outside Pewsey. It's a nice area to walk around, but the boardwalk is quite narrow and the rest of the area was fairly muddy. Probably not worth an extra trip to visit, but if you have a spare half day in Pewsey I'd wander round again.
Great place, lovely views and fab walks for all the family, one of my favourite places to go at anytime
