A former coal mine turned museum, showcasing the history of coal mining in the UK, with exhibits featuring vintage machinery, interactive displays, and recreated underground tunnels, offering a glimpse into the lives of coal miners and their working conditions.
On the site of an old colliery with evidence of its coke ovens. A nice place for a short walk or a place to relax on a sunny day. With access to the moors including the Compton Circular; which I will be going back to do at some point. An excellent spot to see & hear birds too, with bees & butterflies visible. Bluebells & wild garlic growing whilst visited in early May.
I visit jubilee colliery regularly with the dog's. It's a nice ,quiet, enclosed walk. Has a large grassy area which is ideal for letting the dog's off lead. The grounds of the old mill and lake are very interesting to explore. Some great routes to get onto the Moors too.
Coke ovens especially interesting. The car park is beyond the railway bridge by modern housing.
Nice place for a walk
Really interesting spot, just tucked away off the main road. A few industrial ruins to explore, some old and some not so old. Head up into the hills from here and get some great views over Oldham, Shaw and Greater Manchester
Lovely place and so close to the road and tram and yet you could be miles away. Spoke with Miriam, one of the volunters/guides who showed myself and my great niece around. She was very informative on the site itself and about the building remains. Will visit again. remains remains remains
Good for kids
