This charming village in Northumberland, northeast England, boasts a rich history dating back to the 12th century, with many of its original medieval buildings still standing. Visitors can stroll along the picturesque main street, lined with old cottages, tea rooms, and quaint shops, and explore the village's historic church, which features stunning stained-glass windows. The village's rural surroundings offer scenic walking trails and opportunities to spot local wildlife, including red squirrels and birds.
Total hidden gem. Never been there before. Wonderful easy coastal walk. Take Granny and the kids for a lovely dander.
This is a beautiful area but only if you are fully able bodied! I am a wheelchair user with a wheelchair accessible vehicle but you can only park in a pot hole filled stoney car park with no view of the beach as it is obscured by residential buildings so the access to any beach is only by further pot holed wheel tracks so unless you have an all terrain chair you are stuck. There is a toilet block but you cannot access it as it is surrounded by overgrown weeds etc with no hard ground that can be seen. We left after 10 minutes and went elsewhere.
I hadn't been there in about 16 years. The National Trust have really left it go. . Their modern woke rewilding of the open green areas including weeds like ragwort would not have been understood by the original inhabitants and to be honest just looks scruffy and uncared for. Driveways and car park full of pot holes
Lovely old village with little beach and costal walks
I have known about this place for 50 years but my partner had never been to it. Its like stepping back 100 years into a little fishing village on the Irish Sea coast. Absolutely stunning Highly recommended.
Cute wee village on the sea.
Wheelchair-accessible car park
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
