Kendal Museum was founded in 1796, making it one of Britain's oldest museums. The building in it's heyday was a wool warehouse and connected to the nearby railway line. The Museum has 3 galleries and boasts unique collections of natural history and archaeology. Feedback from our visitor reviews compliment the museum on the eclectic mix of the artefacts and the very friendly service. The People's Gallery exhibits artwork from Cumbrian local artists that changes every six to seven weeks. The museum has a shop, cafe and play area. It welcomes coach tours (adjacent parking by arrangement). it is perfect for small events and workshops. Find us near Kendal Railway Station.
A great museum to visit and learn about the regional and local history in Kendal as well as other exhibits displaying archaeology, wildlife, and stuffed animals around the museum. In fact, no one found it more interesting than my dog, who had an interesting interaction with one of the stuffed hedgehogs in the museum. Had a nice time at the museum overall and would recommend others come and visit themselves if they are around the area.
Great place to visit. Plenty of history, exhibits, stuffed animals etc. So much to see. Also there's an art exhibition down stairs at the moment. Well worth a visit.
Had an absolutely wonderful time . The exhibitions were amazing, and so many cabinets of curiosities ..it is well worth putting aside a fair hours to enjoy. The World Wildlife Galley was so interesting the museum has made a spectacular job of making thoughtful displays of the artefacts. The staff were lovely so informative and helpful .
An absolutely fabulous visit. PS10 for two of us was well worth it. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the variety of exhibits, including crystals, bicycles, a bear (and many other creatures), a self-pouring teapot, and a rock-xylophone which my partner enjoyed playing. An array of interesting things to see, plus a lovely cafe. 10/10.
Stumbled upon this whilst visiting Kendal. Quite a small museum, but has some decent artefacts inside such as ancient Egypt and Roman items. I'd say the best part of the museum was the Victorian taxidermy section. An incredible amount of animals and something that kids would find very interesting. They have a few snacks at the entrance but no cafe or anything.
Not a massive museum as the upstairs has been given to the college students. Ground floor has a very good range of different historical items, there's something for everyone. Lots of small exhibits squeezed in. They had a separate room for Taxidermy, I must add that it was one of the best taxidermy exhibits I had seen in a long time. Small cafe where you could get a hot drink, not much else. Price was reasonable and you can come back as many times as you want for free within 12 months. Very friendly staff. Unfortunately we did have lots of college students coming in and out not for the museum
