Heritage railway operating along 10.5 miles of preserved track between Tenterden Town in Kent to Bodiam in East Sussex. A day out that the entire family can enjoy, we are proud of our reputation of uniting the generations. Typically open weekends and selected weekdays from Mothering Sunday to end October. A range of travel, dining experiences, behind the scenes tours and railway experiences are available to book.
Been 3rd time and this place is like magnet. The nostalgic bug is real today we visited for 1940s weekend, for the second time. Amazing atmosphere, it's lovely seeing the props and people bringing back the era to life with clothes, behaviours, music, dance etc. Services: spacious car park very close by, little museum, okish food offer, cute little station shop, station itself - the platforms and buildings around - so lovely. but most of all - fabulous steam trains (of different design and class) that you can take a ride on and what amazing views from the train window! The picturesque land of outstanding beauty relaxes you immediately, your inner child starts to smile inside you and the grim appears on your face no matter how old you are! I recommend going to Tenterden in the morning, spend some time there, take the train all the way to Bodiam, take a short stroll towards Bodiam castle (amazing if you are National trust member!), after a visit to castle go to the nearby pub (opposite the entrance of national trust) that have delicious menu with good prices. And then turn back to Bodiam stations and take the train back... Amazing day out for the whole family.
Always a really friendly welcome at Northiam Station. Staff always genuinely pleased to welcome visitors and give them background. We do miss the lovely lady who served teas in a china cup with a big slab of homemade fruit cake!
Didn't actually visit Northiam station or go on the train. I visited the memorial garden on the other side of the actual train station , as there is a plaque in my Dad's honour on the old wooden railway sleepers that are there .
Great nostalgic journey, definitely worth a trip on one of the steam trains. It is a wonderful service that is mostly operated by volunteers. It takes a great deal of money to keep the stations and trains running so it is worth getting on board (so to speak) to ensure this is still operating for future generations. I assure you that you will have a great day whether you just visit, take a train journey or take a trip on one the themed Train journeys.
