The Kent Firefighting Museum is a voluntary organisation started by a group of forward thinking individuals passionate about our Kentish firefighting heritage
Really interesting museum staffed by experienced and knowledgeable volunteers, many of them ex firefighters. There are 3 fire engines on display outside and more older examples within the museum together with all kinds of fire fighting memorabilia. Well worth a visit, entrance is free but donations to the museum are appreciated.
Free, fun and fire engines!! The museum is hidden at the back of a garden centre but was well worth the visit. (Not sure I'd visit if it was raining as most of it is outside) You can play with the fire engine and hose. There are hats available to wear. There is a little climbing frame and a fire engine ride. Vintage engines were also available to look at and the museum had some fantastic items to look at. There appeared to be a cafe there too but it was closed when we visited, there is however a cafe/restaurant in the garden centre. It was a fun place to pop to for an hour or so.
It's a must see great for children loads of parking and toilets on site
Great little hidden attraction, run by great volunteers who I could listen to all day talking about the history of the place, how it began, and stories from the past. Great little area for kids to play, and pretend to be a firefighter on the real ex service Dennis Fire Engine on site.
Once you've set your satnav to the garden centre, and walked to the back of it, you'll find a small, but packed museum, several outbuildings and a half-dozen vehicles. The exhibits are nicely explained, and the retired firemen volunteers are friendly.
Set in a very good location, lots of historic firefighting equipment and a few old appliances, staff are friendly and very informative. Not open Monday and Tuesday then open 1000hrs to 1600hrs. Free entry but there is a donation pot should you want to donate.
