This 14th-century church ruin stands atop a hill overlooking the picturesque village of Kilbroney, its crumbling stone walls and towers a testament to the region's rich history.
On the road into Rostrevor from the North ( Belfast ). This is an in use graveyard - so there could be local people visiting loved ones graves. Something to note. In through the main gate - straight down is a monument that tells you a little of the history from here. Basically about the bell that is no longer here " Saint Bronagh's Bell, from the 6th century is displayed in the local Catholic Church in Rostrevor. Local folklore has it that if you pray to Bronagh and ring the bell three times, your prayer will be answered. " Then turn left - to the old church. 'Cill Bhronaigh', or Bronagh's Church (12th century) - you can enter it from the back and it is impressive inside. Also in the graveyard is Saint Bronagh's Cross, dating from the late 8th century, but I was not sure if I found it or not! There is also the grave of Giant Murphy, who at 8ft 1 inch was the tallest man in the world in his day. But again I could not find this...I will visit again on our next trip to Rostrevor and update if I find it with pictures... Worth a stop if passing by.
old graveyard with preRoman Catholic church ruins from Celtic Church circa 1500 yewrs ago. interesting old gravestones.
Intriguing history alongside the well and the bell (in the church in Rostrevor). No real paths in the upper churchyard nr the church, so take care.
Yet another Fab forest Park, I feel so blessed to live in this little corner of the world we call Ireland. So much beauty.
Wonderful wee church ruin Be warned though, sheep can and do populate the general area.
Well kept graveyard. Contains the remains of Irish giant.
