This unique attraction features a collection of intricately sculptured stones created by artist John Kilmartin over a period of 20 years. The stones, weighing up to 20 tons, are carved with incredible detail and precision, depicting various themes such as Celtic mythology, astronomy, and the natural world. The sculptures are set amidst a beautiful garden, adding to their serene and contemplative atmosphere. Visitors can wander through the gardens, getting up close to the massive stones and appreciating the skill and craftsmanship that has gone into their creation.
The grave stones are in a custom built shelter in the churchyard at Kilmartin. They are well preserved and displayed and have explanatory signage. There is limited parking beside the church and a great view down Kilmartin Glen. The church is next door to te museum which has a cafe and toilets.
Brand new exhibition centre. Exhibits are interesting and well laid out, although generic to anywhere in Britain. The chance to further enhance the experience of the mysterious use of the stone circle was wasted with a video presentation showing an arty series of images that did not conjure up a feeling of mystery that was intended. A nice walk out to the cairns and stone circles was enjoyable but underwhelming, sadly.
The old church was temporarily closed but the view is stunning and some of the stone carvings are still accessible via the graveyard. Very interesting place with an aura about it.
Awesome find just off the tiny village of Kilmartin opposite the wee white pub there is a church yard showing this beautiful burial slabs from 1200 through until the mid 18th Century.
The church was closed but the other covers were available to view . The new museum was still not ready to open as yet but looks very interesting to visit once open
A great place to visit that's steeped in local and national Gaelic history
Restaurant
Good for kids
