Kingswood Heritage Museum is located in an old C18th Brassworks, and interprets the social and industrial history of Kingswood and the surrounding areas, including William Champion's brass making industry. Adjacent to the museum are the William Champion gardens and grottoes, (check opening dates/times for grottoes). Our 2022 season has ended and we are currently closed. The Museum will reopen on Saturday, 1st April 2023, please check our website for further details.
Plenty of interesting local history, with good displays. Also a nice motorcycle collection for anyone interested in bikes. Friendly, and knowledgeable team on site. The display is rotated every so often. So a second visit is worth while.
Although only a short visit, I was so impressed by your amazing collection of local history and artifacts. You are a wonderful repository of local history and knowledge. I must be getting old as it seems that a good number of things were part of my youth! We will return. Thank you.
Lovely little local museum. First time we have visited, live locally and have found a great museum. Lots ot great exhibits and a lovely garden with a great grotto and a statue of Neptune. A great place to visit and a good price.
Fantastic place! Very helpful team of friendly, knowledgeable volunteers on hand to answer any questions you may have. Great little shop and cafe to grab a bite to eat. The grottoes are fascinating too! Great value for money and a good local trip out all round.
We visited here this afternoon, what a fabulous place! There is a small car park and the museum is well signposted. Run by volunteers, the museum covers local history from Roman times to the present day. It's a very 'old school' museum so there is lots to read and see and it's worth paying PS6 for the annual membership so you can absorb a bit at a time. The displays and models to illustrate topics are really well done. It really was fascinating to read about the way the area grew up and how it has changed so much, even in the last 50 years. It's also surprising how much local industry has closed or moved away. Very enjoyable visit and we will certainly visit again, hopefully when it's dry so we can explore outside! 2nd visit, Aug 2022: Despite living nearby for many years, this is the first time we have visited these grottoes and the Neptune statue. There are plenty of information boards to give you an idea of what the site was like in its heyday and how innovative Champion was. We spent an hour wandering between the different areas and it was a fascinating experience. It would be lovely if SGC invested some money to maybe refill the lake or otherwise help develop these as a tourist attraction beyond the immediate area.
Amazing little place. Despite a few pieces tucked away during C19 it's packed with historic facts and loads of original pieces. PS3 is very reasonable and now its free during C19 so I donated my entrance fee.
