Explore the unspoiled wilderness of the Knepp Wildland, a 3,500-acre nature reserve in West Sussex, where free-roaming animals roam freely, including ponies, cattle, deer, and pigs. Take a guided safari tour in a Land Rover, getting up close and personal with the wildlife, and learn about the conservation efforts and unique ecosystem of this remarkable habitat.
My 2 teens and I shared a yurt for a quick break away from city life. We had a wonderful time and particularly enjoyed swimming in the pond. The rustic open kitchen was well equipped and all facilities were very clean. The open air bath/shower is quite an experience! The onsite shop has a good range of local produce all of which cooked up beautifully on the BBQ/firepit. Fluffy pillows and warm duvets kept the nights very cosy.||Naturally all this came at a price. Whilst it has not been the cheapest glamping holiday, we all voted it the best and are hoping to make it an annual family event.
We had a spectacular visit to Knepp. Camped in their peaceful spacious field. Great facilities! Had a bath under the oak tree canopy and had a dip in the swimming pond. We walked around the stunning site also and spotted some wonderful wildlife. The highlight was the Purple Emperor Safari. Didn't expect much on a windy soggy day, but the guide was excellent and we saw dozens! Also saw an amazing array of other butterflies.
Our first visit to Knepp and we chose to pitch our own tent for 5 nights, which is not something we do often but was brilliant. Parking is free and very close to the shop and giant wheelbarrows, which you are asked to use to transport your stuff to the camping field. Each pitch is a mown circle or area well separated from the next by long grass and flowers and each tent gets a firepit to cook on ( old wheel with grill rack on top). Coal, wood & charcoal are for sale at the shop and the Pitch Up shed/ dining area has a pizza over too with kits available in the shop. We found the showers cold on our first try ( gas cylinder bottles were empty!) but the open air shower early morning was divine the next day. Everything is made from reclaimed wood etc but clean and well designed. |Storm Lilian hit us one night and we were taking down in the rain so late leaving but no one hassled us. We did two safaris which were both excellent and the food in the cafe is excellent. 10 out of 10 from us!
We were over the moon to stay in the beautiful and luxurious Peregrine Treehouse - booking it was tricky as it's quite rightly very popular but we had a fantastic stay. Definitely recommended and the wood fired open air bath was epic. We enjoyed listening to the bats with our bat detector (bought inspired by a previous Knepp visit).
We went on a day safari (Walk on the Wild Side). It was raining the whole time, but our tour guide was so full of energy and cool information and interesting anecdotes that the time passed really quickly - a truly great and engaging orator. Our tour group asked quite a few detailed questions and he was so knowledgeable about Knepp, its history and ecological matters more generally. There's so much to learn and see, so we'll definitely be coming back for another tour.
We stayed in the Bechstein bell tent. It was wonderfully comfortable and well equipped. Lovely big cosy bed, wood burning stove and plenty of space, with lots of privacy. The glamping kitchen has everything you need to cook and eat, looking out onto the wild flower filled field, with rabbits, foxes, storks, insects, other birds. Using the pizza oven was fun with everything you need on sale in the go down. The toilets and shower facilities were good and clean and the open air baths were a fabulous treat after dips in the beautiful swimming pond. It felt like a very special place to really be in nature, apart from the rather prominent at times noise of the dual carriageway that passes nearby. Waking to the roar of rush hour traffic on Monday morning was a massive downer on an otherwise wonderful weekend.
