Visit Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve to explore the fascinating landscapes and geology of the North West Highlands. Explore the trails, enjoy the views and discover the visitor centre where you will learn all about this stunning area. Knockan Crag holds the key to an amazing story of colliding continents and scientific intrigue. The low cliff of Knockan exposes rocks that set the scientific world ablaze in the 19th century. This followed the discovery that a slice of old rocks sits on top of much younger ones. The Moine Thrust - as it's known - was created by the force of two continents crashing together many millions of years ago.
A free car park with toilets and honesty box and picnic benches. Very well done with a good information area on the history of the geology. There is a circular route which is a bit hair raising if you go left to the viewpoint and not suitable if you don't like heights or are unsteady on your feet. Taking the right hand path takes you to the same viewpoint but without the tiny path and severe drops. My fella had to turn around and met us from the easier route. Spent a couple of hours doing the full circular and having lunch. Dog stayed off lead the whole way with no grazing animals insight. Never saw any eagles though boo hoo . We visited in May and only saw a handful of people on the actual circular
We are allowed to use car park to stay overnight in our motorhome, what a view. Public toilet available Lovely walk at the nature reserve, with information about the surrounding area. PS10 donation advised , online, poor signal there is a donation box if needed
Stayed overnight here, its a great little stop over with donations asked for, lovely clean toilets and we enjoyed a walk up the crag late evening there is a beautiful view at the top and lots of informational points along the way
Great views - superb walk - well worth a visit - excellent information
Very nice place with a great view. You can walk a path up the hill. Would really recommend to do that. But beware of the Midgets in summer. The toilets at the parking place were very dirty.. :(
