Cosy rooms, free breakfast and parking in a relaxed hotel with casual dining and laundry facilities.
I've just returned from cycling all over England and Scotland and I thought I'd share my experience while staying at this hotel. ||||My diary says I stayed at 36 indoor venues, and I can say with confidence that this hotel was my most unpleasant. || ||My reception upon arrival was the coldest I had experienced. My efforts of small talk were met with silence, but I let it slip. I checked in, with more silence. ||||The room was OK, as was the dinner that evening, but while having breakfast the following morning I passed on my thoughts to the elderly waitress about the ambiguously worded breakfast checklist, which I was asked to complete the previous evening. Having completed many such checklists at other hotels in the UK, I could see how it could be improved to allay future confused guests. She politely explained to me the list's intended meaning, and I reiterated that I found it confusing. She then returned to the kitchen, and about 15 seconds later an elderly woman appeared from the same kitchen, stormed over to my table, shook my completed checklist in my face and sternly defended its ambiguous wording. I then realised I must have found the author of the checklist. Her argument not only lacked logic, but it was delivered in such an unprofessional manner that I was truly shocked. I said I was merely passing on some customer feedback to make it easier for future guests, and that there was no need to be so confrontational. She repeated her baseless argument (including yogurt is a cereal) and as she stormed off she blurted out "I'm not used to dealing with stupid people !" ||||Sadly my memories of my stay are unpleasant ones, and I must support the comments of other writers on this website by suggesting you look further afield if you seek an enjoyable stay. ||||For the rest of Scotland and England, I truly enjoyed my visit.
We were in the Highlands for the NC500 and despite the hotel not being on the route it was relatively easy to get there and back on fantastic driving roads. Staff very helpful and welcoming, rooms comfortable and well appointed. Had two wonderful nights' sleep in our room at the back of the hotel with the window wide open! Breakfast excellent. Dinner well-priced with a modest range of dishes. Very good value for money, especially compared with the hotels on the NC500 route itself. Only downside is the hotel bar, which is small and not at all cosy. You have to leave the hotel by one door and re-enter by another to get to the bar. It would be a big improvement if the bar and restaurant were co-located.
The hotel is a little scruffy from the outside but the actual bedrooms are very nice and modern. Parking right in front of hotel. We ate in the lounge bar and the food was excellent. Breakfast was a little greasy but was freshly cooked and hot. Would definitely recommend.
We enjoyed our overnight stay. The lady who checked us in was so lovely and welcoming. The hotel was very clean, the rooms were comfortable and breakfast well organised and tasty!
We traveled here for family reasons the rooms were clean & food good. The welcoming wasn't the best but thought a one off. The waitress was so helpful & again the lady in the morning for breakfast. However we went out for a walk then couldn't get back in to change to go out. After going round the back we found a door open that went through the kitchen. Yes it wasn't ideal but only way we could get back in .... The cleaning lady was so rude & it was like being back at school not what you expected to be spoken to as a guest. Then when we came to go back out we found that she had locked us in!!! Ridiculous behaviour & so we then had to go through a fire door to get out as no one came to answer our calls. It was a shame as the hotel owners apologised but it left a bad taste as can imagine. |Would we return no ....
Not been here for a while and the proprietors have made big efforts to keep this place up to date. This must be difficult in winter when visitors are few. We stayed one night in November and our room was modern, comfortable and the whole hotel was warm. Good facilities, including USB ports for charging. We had dinner which had several choices, although simple bar menu type items (but roast venison if you like) at average prices. The dining area a bit "bright" for some. Keg beers with choice were fine, so too were the wines. Lots of whisky choices if you prefer. We didn't venture into the bar. Simple freshly cooked breakfasts with pre-ordered choice. A rural highland hotel with friendly and helpful staff on a cold night!
