Lovely steam train ride to lakeside where we got off and visited the aquarium. Lovely scenic journey, well worth a visit if your in the area. The journey is approximately 20 mins each way with the chance of doing a boat trip at the same time as they sell combined tickets. The scenery around the area is just amazing, the cafe was very nice too and ha really good ice cream. You can just sit and watch the world go by, by the side of the lake if you don't fancy a boat trip. There is so much to see and do around the area.
Took the boat from bowness and the train from Lakeside to Haverthwaite. Pleasant trip and got some lovely photos of the trains and from the boat of Windermere. There isn't much to do once you reach Haverthwaite apart from visit the station cafe, the engine shed and a park, plus a short woodlands walk (which has a good view). From the woodlands walk you can join other circular routes through the forest with some views but no details of how long they are. We missed a train doing one of these. If you go over the bridge there is a picnic area which is a good vantage point for watching a train come in or leave.
Wonderful stream experience, nice to see it preserved. Big thanks to all the friendly staff. Especially the lady in the gift shop, truly amazing for all the advice and help to make it a great time. The gentleman on the train giving out the visitors guide book was helpful and funny. Great location, good views and helpful towards disabled people with an electronic lift for everyone to enjoy. Good cafe with again friendly staff, with a mars Krispy cake to die for...to sum up, really helpful staff, great experience well worth a visit.
Taking the Lakeside and Haverthwaite train ride was a true highlight of my trip to the Lake District. From the moment I stepped aboard the vintage locomotive, I was captivated by the sheer beauty of the surrounding landscape. As the train slowly chugged along the tracks, I was treated to breathtaking views of the glistening lake and the rolling green hills beyond. The gentle rocking of the carriage and the soothing sound of the engine created a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere. I could have spent hours just watching the picturesque countryside unfold before my eyes. It was the perfect way to soak in the tranquil charm of this stunning region.
Haverthwaite station is beautiful and has a great cafe and gift shop. There is good parking too - shout-out to the gentleman in the car park who was so helpful. The journey to Lakeside station in the old carriages is beautiful and the views at Lakeside are stunning. Bit disappointed that there was only a Starbucks type cafe at Lakeside which did have lovely views but is a bit expensive. The cream scone and rhubarb and custard cake was good though. Cost of the return train fare is very good value.
